Disconnection Between Tenants

The Ontario Energy Board has issued customer service standards for residential accounts, that state "When a distributor receives a request to close or transfer an account in relation to a rental unit in a residential property, they shall not seek to recover any charges for service provided to that rental unit or residential property after closure of the account from any person, including the landlord for the property, unless the person has agreed to assume responsibility for those charges". This applies to electricity charges only - billing for water and waste water charges will continue. Further, "a distributor may enter into an agreement with a landlord whereby the landlord agrees to assume responsibility for paying for continued service after closure of a tenant's account".

Norfolk Power is requesting that each Landlord of rental units or property advise us whether you would like the hydro service disconnected between tenants for each residential property, or as in the past, put back into your name with no interruption of service. If you elect to have the power disconnected, it will remain off until a new tenant's application has been approved. Someone will have to be on site for the restoration of hydro service. If we don't hear otherwise, the power will be disconnected, as per instructions from the Ontario Energy Board. Disconnection will occur at anytime during the year.

Landlords must indicate which option they prefer by downloading and printing the form below, and returning it to Norfolk Power by one of the following methods:
